Why can't Miami Hurricanes media ask questions that elicit something interesting?
Offensive line coach Alex Mirabal ignited excitement among Hurricane fans during his post-practice media interview today, and rightfully so. There's much to be enthusiastic about regarding the offensive line—and the team as a whole.
Yet, why can't the media covering our team pose non-scripted questions as follow-ups to coaches' responses?
In today's interview, Mirabal emphasized the focus on finding players the staff can trust, noting that there are currently 8-9 players who fit the bill. He mentioned that Samson "Pancake" Okunlola is on the verge of joining those ranks. If not Pancake, who are the players the staff currently trusts? That follow-up question went unasked.
I suppose I can't gripe too much after watching FSU head coach Mike Norvell's post-practice media interview today. He fielded questions about wide receiver and tight end drops, a familiar topic.
When Mario first arrived in Coral Gables, he faced similar media inquiries in his pressers. It’s interesting to see our program's trajectory diverge from FSU's. While FSU is regressing, the Canes are anticipating significant progress and another step in the right direction.
In the interview, Norvell’s demeanor remained monotone as he provided an honest assessment of the drops and the team, acknowledging the growing pains expected this season. FSU may have enjoyed great success last year, but they now face the consequences of relying heavily on the transfer portal, which appears not to be sustainable.
I’m ready to witness it all.
