Florida head coach Billy Napier and the Florida Gators are making headlines today, and not for the right reasons. The news centers around a lawsuit filed by Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jaden Rashada, a once highly touted high school recruit, who is suing the Florida Gators, Billy Napier, and others.
It is highly likely that the Gators' leadership will terminate Billy Napier before the start of the 2024 season. By doing so, they can construct a narrative around introducing a new regime and NIL collective, while admitting to prior missteps.
Failing to execute this strategy—by not terminating Napier—will only prolong this PR crisis and further damage public perception.
The Gators can choose to cut their losses now or later but in my professional PR opinion, I can say from experience that immediate action is often the better route.
Currently, the administration is probably regretting their decision to recruit Cormani McClain, whose recruitment mirrored Rashada’s in many ways. However, desperate times call for desperate measures.
